The ethos behind Laura’s Yoga Club

Hi, I am Laura,

It is really nice to meet you!

I am a Yoga Alliance accredited Yoga teacher for children and adults
An Early Years and Primary School Teacher.
An Artist Educator

Laura’s Yoga club was born out of my love for three things;

Children, Yoga and Art.

I am a Yoga enthusiast and have seen first hand the benefits yoga brings to little minds.

Children are our future, we need to invest in them to enable them to be the best human beings they can be to ensure health and happiness for all.

I have been a teacher in Primary schools across Manchester and London for the past seven years. Within that time I have worked with a lot of children and discovered that children can lack the tools to help them to better understand what is going on with their bodies, minds and their emotions. Children are whipped up in a whirl wind of academia and fast tracked through an enormous array of social challenges on a daily basis but we do not give children the tools to enable them to cope with it all.

When I started teaching Yoga to children I saw the positive effects it had upon them;

  • children were better able to articulate how they felt

  • children better understood a wider range of emotions

  • children were able to cope in a greater range of stressful situations

  • children had increased development of body awareness

  • children became equipped with tools to help them to self regulate.

Artist Educator

Having always enjoyed the arts and being a creative person I relished the opportunity to bring my passion into schools. I noticed first hand the need to change the art curriculum from product driven to process led, to encourage children to learn and develop during the construction of art rather than following a step by step plan to produce something from someone else’s imagination. A lot more freedom was needed. To rectify this I developed the Arts curriculum and provision across the Early Years settings I have worked in and lead a range of CPD sessions for teaching staff.

In 2015 I embarked on a Masters at UCL to further my knowledge of arts education within Museums and Galleries. In this time I worked in a number of cultural settings creating and delivering art projects for children following my ethos of ‘process over product’.

There is such a strong link between Yoga and Art and I am passionate about entwining the two to bring a fantastic package of learning to the children I work with. One that is filled with a tool box of ways to help little ones navigate through life with a huge smile on their face!

Much love

Laura X
